Our approach

A Different Kind of Mortgage Conversation

For many people, a reverse mortgage is one of the largest financial decisions they'll ever make. It deserves more than a quick sales pitch or a list of talking points.

We believe you should understand how the loan works, what your responsibilities are, how it could affect your estate, and what alternatives may be available. That means taking the time to answer questions honestly, explain the details in plain language, and make sure you feel comfortable with every step of the process.

There is no substitute for good information.

Whether you're just beginning your research or you've been considering a reverse mortgage for some time, we're here to help you make an informed decision with confidence.

The basics

What Is a Reverse Mortgage?

A reverse mortgage is a loan available to many homeowners age 55 and older that allows them to convert a portion of their home's equity into usable funds while continuing to live in the home.

Unlike a traditional mortgage, eligible borrowers are generally not required to make monthly mortgage payments toward the loan balance, provided they continue to meet the loan's requirements. Those requirements typically include living in the home as your primary residence, keeping the property in good condition, and staying current on property taxes, homeowners insurance, and any applicable homeowners association dues.

Depending on your situation, funds may be available as a lump sum, monthly payments, a line of credit, or a combination of these options.

Every homeowner's circumstances are different, which is why understanding how these programs work is so important before deciding whether one is right for you.

Why homeowners explore

Why Homeowners Explore Reverse Mortgages

People consider reverse mortgages for many different reasons. For some, it's about creating more flexibility during retirement. For others, it's about reducing monthly financial obligations or making it easier to remain in the home they love. Some common reasons homeowners begin exploring their options include:

No. 01

Creating Additional Retirement Income

Supplement retirement savings with funds that can help support everyday living expenses.

No. 02

Eliminating Monthly Mortgage Payments

If you still have a traditional mortgage, a reverse mortgage may allow you to pay off that balance, eliminating the required monthly mortgage payment. You must still meet the loan's ongoing obligations.

No. 03

Staying in Your Home

Many homeowners want to remain in familiar surroundings as they grow older. A reverse mortgage may help make that possible.

No. 04

Preparing for Future Expenses

Some borrowers use home equity to create additional financial flexibility for healthcare costs, home modifications, or other unexpected expenses.

No. 05

Improving Cash Flow

Reducing monthly obligations can create more room in a household budget and help relieve financial stress.

No. 06

Building a Broader Retirement Strategy

A reverse mortgage is sometimes used alongside other retirement planning tools as part of a larger financial strategy.

Honest answers, no pressure

One of the biggest concerns we hear is, “I don't want to be talked into something.” Neither do we.

Our role is to explain how reverse mortgages work, answer your questions, and help you evaluate whether they fit your financial goals. If another option makes more sense for your situation, we'll tell you that.

We believe trust is earned by giving people the information they need, even when the answer isn't what they expected. When you leave a conversation with us, our hope is that you feel more informed than when you arrived.

Common questions

Common Questions We Can Help You Answer

Instead of wondering what you've heard is true, get answers based on current lending guidelines and your individual situation. Questions we commonly discuss include:

  • How much equity do I need to qualify?
  • Will I still own my home?
  • Can my children inherit the property?
  • What happens when I move?
  • How are loan proceeds received?
  • What costs are involved?
  • Will my Social Security or Medicare benefits be affected?
  • Is a reverse mortgage my best option, or should I consider something else?

If you're asking these questions, you're not alone. They're some of the most common concerns we hear from homeowners and their families.
